Oak
Standard Flooring Grade Descriptions
General Species Info

The Wood Flooring Exchange goes to great lengths to ensure the correct representation of our flooring grades. In North America, the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Association (NOFMA) sets the grading standards.

However, there are no such standards overseas, so many who label their flooring Clear grade are actually shipping Select and Better grade or worse. When comparing mills please pay close attention to each mill's notes on how each of these mills grade as well as how the region where they get their wood compares to other regions.

Below are detailed descriptions of the grades we find are most applicable to Oak.

A/B Grade
A/B grade is a mix of Clear, Select and some Low Select. Color and grain are well matched from piece to piece.
A/B/C Grade
A/B/C grade is usually 75% A/B grade and 25% C grade mixed and is a Low Select Grade.
C/D Grade
C/D Grade is a C Grade with defects color match filled. Color and grain variations are large.
